Commemorate the first self-governed black township in California! In August 1908 Colonel Allen Allensworth and three other settlers (William Payne, Oscar Overr, J. W. Hall) established a town founded, financed and governed by African Americans. The annual rededication ceremony helps visitors see the vision of the founding pioneers and helps preserve the important history and memory of the site. Amtrak San Joaquins will be running a special train right to the doorstep of this historic landmark and festival. Book now and save 50% on travel.
